Mt. Major offers views that are among the best in southern New Hampshire for the effort required, but the upper ledges are steep and dangerous in wet or icy conditions. These dangerous ledges and the easy accessibility of the mountain have combined to produce a number of serious injuries, particularly in late fall and winter when ice is present.
